If your older Bindicator freezes on blue lights, disappears from the app or keeps restarting during setup, follow the steps below. This guide covers the older device software known as V10/V21.

Bought your Bindicator after September 2026? Use the recovery guide for newer devices. You do not need to know its software version. If you are unsure which guide applies, contact us with your purchase details.

Before trying again, install any available update for the Bindicator app on your phone.

Restart the lamp and start pairing again

If the app says the lamp is updating, leave it plugged in and follow the update instructions below. Otherwise:

  1. Exit the failed setup attempt in the app. Use just one phone for setup.
  2. Unplug the lamp for 10 seconds, then plug it back in. Leave the QR-code touchpad under the lid untouched while the lamp starts up.
  3. If both lights are already flashing blue, continue to the next step. Otherwise, let the startup lights settle, then hold the QR-code pad for about 10 seconds until both lights flash blue. Release it and leave the pad alone. If the lamp keeps restarting or never responds to the hold, use the checks at the end of this guide.
  4. Keep your phone close to the lamp. Turn on Bluetooth and allow the app's Bluetooth or Nearby devices permission. On Android, follow any prompt to enable location services for scanning.
  5. Start setup again inside the Bindicator app. Choose your timezone and home Wi-Fi network, then enter the Wi-Fi password carefully.

On these older devices, a short tap during pairing can restart the lamp. Once the lights flash blue, leave the pad untouched while you finish setup in the app.

Unplugging the lamp does not erase its saved Wi-Fi details. Pairing again lets you replace them. The eight-tap factory reset does not work on this older software. Get the lamp connected and updated first, then use the factory reset guide if you still need to erase its saved setup.

Understand flashing and solid blue lights

Flashing blue means the lamp is ready for the app to find it. Solid blue means your phone has connected to it. Solid blue is normal while you work through setup.

If the app reports a failed connection or stays stuck on the same step, exit that attempt and restart the lamp using the steps above.

If the app cannot find a lamp that is flashing blue, check its Bluetooth permission in your phone's settings. Close the setup flow on any other nearby phone. If Android reports that scanning has paused, give it time to recover before trying again.

The lamp may restart once after you enter the Wi-Fi details. Keep the app open and allow its two-minute connection wait to finish. If the lamp keeps restarting or never appears connected, try the next checks.

If Wi-Fi fails or the lamp keeps restarting

  • Move the lamp closer to your router.
  • Check that you chose your home network and entered its password correctly. Capital letters matter.
  • Make sure your phone can use the internet on that network.
  • Bindicator needs 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. Most home routers offer it. If your network is missing from the app, check your router's settings or ask whoever manages your Wi-Fi.

Older devices can also have trouble with long Wi-Fi names or passwords, or ones containing commas. You do not need to change your whole home network to troubleshoot this. Follow the advanced guide's older-device Wi-Fi checks, or ask us for help.

For Pi-hole, mesh Wi-Fi, VPNs or other custom network settings, use the advanced setup guide.

Update once the lamp connects

  1. Wait until the Bindicator app shows the lamp as connected.
  2. Accept the app's update prompt, or open its Connection screen and select the available update.
  3. Keep the lamp plugged in, keep the app open on that device and let the update finish. The lamp may disconnect and restart as part of installation.
  4. After it reconnects, check the Connection screen to confirm the update finished and is no longer offered.

If the app reports that the update failed and the lamp has stopped responding, unplug it for 10 seconds. Plug it back in and wait until the app shows it as connected before retrying. For repeated update failures, see the advanced guide or contact us.

Once connected and updated, check your timezone and bin schedules, then use the Quick Start Guide to finish setup.

If recovery still fails

If the lamp has no lights or repeatedly loses power, try another working USB power source and cable. If it still will not respond or setup fails again, contact us for recovery help.

Tell us when you bought it, which phone you use and where setup stopped. Describe the lights or send a short video. You do not need to know the lamp's software version, and we do not need your Wi-Fi password.
