This guide is for Bindicators purchased after September 2026. If your new lamp freezes, restarts or will not connect during setup, follow the steps below. You do not need to know which software version it is running.
For an earlier purchase, see the recovery guide for older devices. If you are unsure which guide applies, contact us with your purchase details.
Restart setup
Install any available update for the Bindicator app on your phone. If the app says the lamp itself is updating, leave it plugged in until the update finishes or the app reports a failure. Otherwise:
- Exit the failed setup attempt in the app. Use just one phone for setup.
- Unplug the lamp for 10 seconds, then plug it back in. Leave the QR-code touchpad under the lid untouched while it starts up.
- If both lights are flashing blue, the lamp is ready to pair. Otherwise, let the startup lights settle, then hold the QR-code pad for about 10 seconds until both lights flash blue. Release the pad.
- Keep your phone close to the lamp. Turn on Bluetooth and allow the app's Bluetooth or Nearby devices permission. On Android, follow any prompt to enable location services for scanning.
- Start setup again in the Bindicator app. Choose your timezone and home Wi-Fi network, then enter the Wi-Fi password carefully.
Once pairing starts, leave the pad alone and follow the app. Holding it again for 10 seconds while pairing is active restarts the lamp. A single accidental tap does not restart these newer devices.
If the lamp will not respond to the hold or keeps restarting before you can pair, go to the help section below.
Check what the lights mean
- Both lights flashing blue: the lamp is ready for the app to find it.
- Both lights solid blue: your phone has connected to the lamp. This is normal while you work through setup.
- Green startup lights: the lamp is working through its connections. Keep the app open and wait for it to confirm setup is complete.
A restart after you send the Wi-Fi details can be part of normal setup. Allow the app's two-minute connection wait to finish. If it reports a failure or the lamp repeatedly restarts, try the checks below.
If the lamp returns to flashing blue, it is ready for another setup attempt. If you leave pairing idle for about 10 minutes, it can restart on its own. Use the restart steps above when you are ready to try again.
If it will not connect to Wi-Fi
- Move the lamp closer to your router.
- Check that you chose the right network and entered its password correctly. Capital letters matter.
- Make sure your phone can use the internet on your home Wi-Fi.
- Bindicator needs 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. Most home routers offer it. If your network is missing from the app, check your router's settings or ask whoever manages your Wi-Fi.
Using Pi-hole, mesh Wi-Fi, a VPN or other custom network settings? Follow the advanced setup guide for those checks. You can also ask us for help.
Reset the saved setup if needed
If you need to erase the saved Wi-Fi network and timezone, follow the factory reset guide. Update the lamp first, as explained there. Your saved bin schedules remain in the app.
If the lamp cannot connect long enough to update, contact us for help before attempting a reset.
Once it connects
If the app offers an update for the lamp, accept it or open the Connection screen to start it later. Keep the lamp plugged in and the app open while it updates. Wait for it to reconnect and confirm in the app that the update finished.
If the app reports an update failure and the lamp has stopped responding, unplug it for 10 seconds. Plug it back in and wait until the app shows it as connected before retrying. For repeated update failures, see the advanced guide or contact us.
Check your timezone and bin schedules, then follow the Quick Start Guide to finish setup.
If you still need help
If the lamp has no lights or repeatedly loses power, try another working USB power source and cable. If it still will not respond or setup fails again, send us a message.
Tell us when you bought it, which phone you use and where setup stopped. Describe the lights or send a short video. You do not need to find a software version, and we do not need your Wi-Fi password.
