Bindicator app on a smartphone

Five steps to bin bliss.

1

Plug in your Bindicator

Plug your Bindicator into a USB port somewhere you'll see it every morning as you leave: a kitchen bench, hallway shelf, or beside the front door works perfectly.

2

Connect to Wi-Fi

Using the app, follow the steps to connect your Bindicator to your home Wi-Fi network. This lets the device automatically adjust for daylight savings time and keep itself in sync.

3

Add Your Schedules

In the app, tap the '+' button to add a schedule. Choose the colour, day, and frequency for each bin. If you're not sure when your collection day is, check your council website. You can also try our new feature which can download your schedules directly from your council website. Be sure to check this for accuracy.

4

Leave your Bindicator Plugged In

The hard work is done. You've set it, now forget it.

5

Bin Night

Your Bindicator lights up the evening before collection day. To switch off the reminder, simply touch the QR code under the lid.

Tapping on the bindicator lid turns out the light so that you know the problem is taken care of.
6

Check What's Next

Not sure which bin is next? Touch the QR code at any time and your Bindicator will light up with the upcoming scheduled bin for 10 seconds, then switch off again.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find out my bin collection day?
Determining your bin collection day typically varies based on your residential location. Most areas operate on a rotating schedule for waste collection, meaning different neighborhoods have different collection days. To find your specific bin collection day, consider checking the official website of your local council or waste management authority. There, you'll likely find a section dedicated to waste services or bin collection schedules. By inputting your address, postcode, or suburb into the provided tool or search function, you can access a calendar or schedule detailing your collection days for various types of bins, such as general waste, recycling, and green waste.
Does Bindicator support .ics import?
An ICS file is a calendar file saved in a universal calendar format. Some councils support export of the waste collection calendars via this format. Bindicator does not currently support importing these .ics files, however it's something we're looking into for a future update.
I have to take out more than 2 bins some days. Can Bindicator display this?
Bindicator can only display 2 bin colours at a time, however if more than 2 bins need to be taken out on a given day, the colours will fade between all of the active schedules. The maximum number of concurrent bins is 32, but if you have that many you've got bigger problems!
Does Bindicator need a Wi-Fi connection to work?
Yes, Bindicator needs an active Wi-Fi connection to function. Bindicator uses the Wi-Fi connection to keep the time so that you don't have to worry about daylight savings or leap-years.
How do I turn off the light once I've taken out the bins?
You can tap the top of the lid with your palm to turn off the light, or lift the lid and tap the QR code.
How do I check which bins are next?
Simply press on the lid with your palm, or tap on the QR code at any time to preview which bins need to go out next.
I can't get my Bindicator to connect to Wi-Fi
Bindicator needs quite a strong Wi-Fi connection to work. Try to complete the initial setup as close as possible to your Wi-Fi modem to ensure the signal strength is not an issue. Once set up, you can move your Bindicator to other locations and see if it is able to connect.
What do the flashing green lights mean?
The flashing lights means your Bindicator is connecting to the network. If the top light is flashing, it means a Wi-Fi connection is currently being established. If the bottom light is flashing, the Bindicator is connected to Wi-Fi and is now connecting to the server. Once both lights are green, a successful connection has been established.
