Setting Up Your Bindicator Just Got A Whole Lot Easier.

Bindicator can now automatically connect to your council website and download your schedule

We've been quietly working on something we think you're going to like — and it's now live in the latest version of the app. Until today, getting your Bindicator going meant telling it exactly when your bins go out: which day, which colour, whether it's weekly or fortnightly, and which bin is which. If you knew your schedule off the top of your head it took a minute or two. If you didn't, it meant digging through council emails or squinting at the fridge magnet. We've replaced all of that with a single step.

Bindicator now automatically connects to your council website

Open the app, tap Find my council, pick yours from the list, and type in your address. That's it. Your Bindicator fills in the rest - every bin, the right colour, the right day, the right fortnight. It works with around 900 councils across Australia, the UK, Europe, and North America, and the list keeps growing. If your council has a way to look up bin days online, there's a very good chance we support it.

What you’ll see

After you enter your address, you'll get a preview screen showing every bin your council collects — recycling, general waste, FOGO, glass, whatever's on your schedule — with a suggested colour for each and the date of the next collection. If you'd rather have your recycling bin flash blue instead of yellow, you can still change it. The suggestions are just a starting point.

One tap applies everything to your Bindicator

If your council isn't in our list yet, or you run into trouble with the lookup, there's a Contact Support button right on the same screen. Drop us a line and we'll help.

A big thank you to the open source community

We couldn't have built this on our own. The council lookup is powered by hacs-waste-collection-schedule, a free, open-source project maintained by a small army of volunteers around the world. Each supported council in our list exists because someone from that community took the time to figure out how to ask that council's website for bin collection dates and contributed it back. If you're a developer or a Home Assistant user yourself, the project is well worth a star. Without it, Bindicator would support a handful of councils instead of hundreds.

Already have a Bindicator?

Update the app to the latest version and you'll find the new feature under the “Add Schedule” button. You can use it to reconfigure any existing device and it'll replace whatever schedule is on there today with the fresh one from your council. We'd love to hear how it goes - what worked, what didn't, and which council to add next. Drop us a line any time.
